Building better lives one word at a time

Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area provides:

  • Free, confidential, and individualized tutoring to adults in basic literacy and English for speakers of other languages

  • Assessment to determine appropriate placement with a tutor.

​​Students and tutors commit to working together for 9-12 months for 2 hours a week. Students and tutors meet and work together usually at a public place like a library, coffee shop, or park. More recently, due to CoVID, our tutors and students are meeting and working remotely by phone, text, e-mail, or video conference (Skype, Zoom, GoogleMeet, etc.)

    Literacy Volunteers mission is to promote and foster increased literacy in the Montachusett area through trained volunteer tutoring and to empower adults for whom English is a second language. We encourage and aid individuals, groups or organizations desiring to increase literacy through voluntary programs.
